Timber insulates better than steel, so the inside stays closer to a comfortable temperature. You get far less of the condensation metal sheds collect on cold mornings. It is quieter in rain and hail. It settles into a garden rather than standing out against it. Solid timber walls also take shelving, hooks and racking fixed straight on, with no thin sheeting to dent or drum. Steel is cheaper and quicker to put up.

Decades, if it is looked after. It comes down to the level of protection on the timber, a building suited to the site, and regular upkeep. Our sheds are built from slow grown, kiln dried European spruce, which holds a coating well and moves less through the seasons.

It depends on where you live. Approval is set by your state and your local council. It turns on floor area, height, siting and setbacks, and on overlays such as bushfire, heritage, flooding and easements. Many small structures are exempt, but the thresholds differ from one council to the next. Nothing here is legal advice.

A flat, level, free draining base is essential. The usual options are a concrete slab, pavers laid on a compacted bed, or a treated timber or steel frame. Set the base to the shed footprint or slightly smaller, so rain runs off instead of pooling under the walls. Your assembly guide gives the footprint for your building.

Yes. Every building arrives as a flat-pack kit with pre-cut, numbered wall boards that interlock, plus the fixings and an illustrated assembly guide. Most garden sheds go together over a weekend with basic hand tools and a ladder. A second pair of hands makes the longer boards much easier. Larger buildings take more time. If you would rather not build it yourself, a carpenter or handyperson can work from the same guide. Any electrical work should go to a licensed trade. Each listing sets out what is included in that kit.

Your shed arrives flat-packed on pallets by freight truck. We offer free freight to metro depots in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney. Request a freight quote if you live outside our free delivery zones.

From the depot you can pick up for free, or arrange delivery to your property with the depot. Items held in stock are dispatched within one to four business days. Made to order buildings take roughly eight to fourteen weeks. They're manufactured in Europe and shipped once your order is placed. The listing tells you which applies to the shed you're looking at. We confirm the timing with you when you order.

The main job is protecting the outside from UV and moisture. Apply an exterior grade oil, stain or paint with UV protection soon after assembly. Refresh the coating in accordance with the manufacturer's recommended schedule. How often depends on how exposed the building is and which finish you use, so follow the coating manufacturer's directions. Beyond that it is simple. Clear leaves off the roof and keep gutters and drainage flowing. Trim plants back so air moves around the walls, and check the base stays dry underneath. Recoating a tired finish early is far less work than repairing weathered timber.

The range runs from compact garden stores for tools, mowers and bikes up to larger buildings you can work in or use for bulk storage. Wall thickness varies by model, and the thicker walled buildings suit a shed you plan to spend time in. Which size suits comes down to your block, how you will use it, and how much room your boundary setbacks leave you. Each listing gives the external and internal dimensions, the height and the door opening, so measure your site first. Door hardware and locking arrangements vary by model, and each listing states what is supplied. Solid interlocking timber walls are harder to force than a light steel shed. If you are storing tools, bikes or equipment of real value, fix the shed down to its base. Fit an upgraded lock and anchor anything portable to the floor.

It varies by model, and every listing states which applies. Many timber sheds are supplied untreated, so you apply the exterior coating yourself. Some are supplied pressure treated, and some kits include treated timbers for the parts sitting closest to the ground. Where the kit is untreated, have your coating ready before you start. Coat the cut ends and anything you will not reach once the shed is standing, then finish the outside once it is up.

Given the right care, Nordic spruce handles Australian weather well. It comes down to three things. How well you protect the timber, whether you use products suited to the job, and whether you keep up the maintenance.
